I sometimes wonder if I am the only person ever with an MBA from Stanford to evolve into teaching yoga. In my mind, at least, that is not as crazy as it sounds as my approach to yoga is always about working with my clients to achieve a mutual understanding of what is really needed to bring significant improvement to their well being. In this way, I continue to be involved with identifying and solving problems. Without good health, nothing else much matters. I find great satisfaction when I can contribute in any way to another person’s well-being.
My Main Focus
What has become clear to me over many years of practice, teaching and coaching is that much of the pain we experience is what I call “structural” as it comes from improper postural alignment and improper mechanics of movement. This can cause spinal disks to collapse against one another and produce other adverse forces on our joints. Worse than the pain caused by these problems are the serious injuries that often result. My expertise is in helping people to regain the posture, alignment and mobility that nature intended and thereby relieve associated pain and achieve better performance. Yoga was originally developed for this purpose.
We often begin physical activities with hopes of getting healthier. Too often, the experience brings up frustration, boredom, and pain. We need a partner to help us find a different result. I partner you in changing your relationship with your body. With just one meeting a week, you will learn how to stretch and strengthen exactly where you need it and you will enhance your personal awareness of how you stand, sit and move.
My clients succeed in a variety of situations, from resolving back, neck, knee or shoulder problems, to recovery from surgery, to athletes seeking a competitive edge. Whatever your age, your previous experience with exercise or your level of fitness, I will help you improve your all around well-being.
I will be your personal Body Coach
We will venture outside the traditional boundaries of yoga whenever it makes sense. One of my clients coined the term Body Coach in an effort to describe what I do because of the way she feels I “guide people to release their inner body intelligence while providing constant observation, inspiration, and expertise in movement techniques from both East and West.” While yoga is my primary discipline, I have trained in many other areas as well. I use that additional training whenever necessary for my clients, particularly in areas such as enhancing core strength, muscle activation and developing shoulder girdle speed, agility and dynamic range of motion. The key is to create the practice that is right for you so you get the right result.
If you are interested in my public classes, I do my best to bring you the same personal focus in a group setting.
I have been practicing yoga since 1989 and have studied extensively with Rodney Yee and Ramanand Patel, completing the Piedmont Yoga Studio Advanced Studies Program in 1996. I have been helping people ever since. I also work with a variety of MDs, DOs, DCs, PTs and other specialized trainers, creating a fully integrated approach to the total health of my clients.
